The title made me gag. What AGI? All that this asshole and the shithole he runs have managed to do is overhype generative AI, trigger unwarranted mass layoffs and put the entire economy on the precipice. This guy doesn’t have a fucking clue about what AGI even is, let alone actually building it or “preparing for it”. Stop platforming the glorified fraudster salesmen that these CEOs are. All they will ever say is whatever will hoodwink investors and keep their stock price bloating more and more. Not a word of truth will emerge from the mouths of these sick losers.
Economic returns go to scarcity. I think Satya says that scarcity currently lies in power, talent, data, and regulatory positioning; and, Frontier Models matter less. He seems to suggest that US firms have an advantage because the US regulatory position is favourable and predictable. Presumably this is because (and this speaks volumes to the point) he can't say that in 2025 the US regulatory position has become much less predictable for allies and business partners. For fear of reprisals...?
Fantastic podcast. This is the best discussion of the new business models of hyper scale AI providers I’ve heard. Microsoft really gets this. Reminds me of SaaS vs Cloud.
Apologies for commenting on this waaaay after it has been published, but I only discovered substack like a day ago. But what Satya says here is in fact the death knell for most AI plays: COGS.
Every query, every inference call, every simple task will cost real money. AFTER it has already cost money to train the model to be able to show up at the table. Not to mention the overhead that comes with it. No wonder he is so nervous on stage these days.
Fantastic interview with front loaded information on Microsoft endeavors to be competitive in the market, strategic vision to remain competitive and resilient in the world, and driving innovation through a unique lens in the AI space. Great work Dwarkesh and Dylan!
Thanks for the insightful tour and interview. As an architect working on data centre projects, I see cloud revenue growth reflected in new physical capacity. Market share and pricing trends affect where projects are delivered and at what scale. The figures help clarify the level of infrastructure required to support that growth.
It is interesting that he is hoping AI will be our guardian angel. I don’t really want satya being my guardian angel. Other than syncing all the green lights, and not exploding a nuclear reactor. He can let me do with ai what I need to get done. Governance right now is too locked. And is preventing me from getting work done.

Thank you for this. Order of magnitude value delta If applied.

For the first two seconds of this (no audio, yes subtitles) I thought it was a deep fake if Foucault talking about Microsoft office
It's actually about democracy. Nobody mentioned it.
Great interview. Many important details in the conversation

Meanwhile, small models on local hardware are the next big thing.

Here for my daily dose of Valley Girl accent.
This was a great conversation. Thanks Michael Burry for sharing this

As an Atlantan watching this, I can’t help but think, “I wonder what impact this is going to have on the future water supply in this region”
